University of Saint Joseph and VRSim to Host CT EMS Forum & Tech Demonstration
West Hartford, CT (02/19/2024) — University of Saint Joseph and VRSim to Host CT EMS Forum & Tech Demonstration
The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) in partnership with VRSim-an East Hartford-based virtual reality and simulation company-will host this year's CT Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Forum & Tech Demonstration as the State faces a shortage of qualified EMS workers. The event aims to address and begin to find solutions to alleviate the shortage.
The gathering will take place at the USJ Bruyette Athenaeum on February 23.
"VRSim's virtual reality technology is being incorporated in a number of USJ courses and we've seen what a powerful tool it is for learning," says USJ President Rhona Free. "This forum will show how effective and engaging VRSim technology can be in EMS training-something that's important at USJ where so many of our students are preparing to work in hospitals, emergency rooms, and other healthcare facilities."
Attendees will have the chance to support Connecticut's first responders, engage in a panel discussion with stakeholders across all parts of the industry, and watch an exploratory documentary about the EMS field, "Honorable but Broken: EMS in Crisis." The event will also feature a technical demonstration from VRSim on some of the latest, most innovative ways EMS responders can be taught life-saving skills in situations ranging from car accidents and heart attacks to drug overdoses.
"We are excited to partner with USJ to host this event to provide valuable information and insights on EMS training and advocacy opportunities," said VRSim President and CEO Matthew Wallace. "We have an impressive lineup of speakers who are experts in the EMS field and are thrilled to showcase VRSim's newest training module alongside these distinguished panelists."
The panelists include:
State Senator James Maroney
Trevor Harris, EMS Training Coordinator, Code One
Melissa Osborne, Training and QI Manager, Infection Control Officer, Ambulance Service of Manchester
Kate Coupe, Chief of Service, Granby Ambulance Association There is no cost to attend, but registration is required. Register here:
